Abstract: Epristeride is an uncompetitive 5α2reductase inhibitor , using for t reatment of benign prostatic hyerplasia. Fertility study on epristeride was carried out in SD rat s. Epristeride was given to male rat s for 9 weeks before mating performance at dose level of 3 ,15 ,75 mg/ kg. Body weight gain and food intake were similar to cont rol. No influence of epristeride in mating performance was observed , but showing slight less of pregnancy rate. No external , visceral and skeletal anomalies were found in fetuses. A little bit of increase in abnormal sperm morphology was observed f rom epristeride2t reated mice at high dose , but there is no statistical significant . Epristeride did not inhibit the elect rically evoked cont ractions of mouse vas deferens. In conclusion ,there is a wide range of safety in reproduction for Epristeride.
